Hello Biodiesel Enthusiasts. I want to update you on our monthly meeting on Tuesday, October 27th, and to ask for input for this newsletter.

October Monthly Meeting – Sustainable Biodiesel

Many biodiesel foes rail about the food vs. fuel. Biodiesel can and is being made sustainably. Many focus on biodiesel made from soy and canola oil. They fail to understand that the cops are grown as animal feed so people can enjoy their steaks and pork chops. The oil is a byproduct of this primary purpose of the crop.

Feedstocks that avoid this controversy completely are waste vegetable oil/tallow, biomass and algae.

Yale Wong, CEO of General Biodiesel, will talk about using waste vegetable oil/tallow to produce biodiesel. Kelly Ogilvie, CEO of Blue Marble Energy, will address producing energy from biomass and algae. Kelly will also address where we are with Algae and when we can expect it as a feedstock for biodiesel production. We look forward to Yale and Kelly updating us on the exciting recent developments that are taking place at their companies. Get your questions answered! 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm, Seattle Phinney Center, 6532 Phinney Ave. N, Seattle WA 98103. Cost is Free. Information at NW Biodiesel.

We look forward to seeing you at the Phinney Center on Tuesday, October 27, 2009.

In a recent announcement we told you about Essential Bakery’s decision to use B99 in their delivery trucks. It is a great story, and we are pleased to have shared that with the biodiesel community.

We are interested in learning about other companies and organizations that have incorporated biodiesel in running their business or not-for-profit. Use could be as a fuel for vehicles, marine use, heating fuel, or other uses.

Please let us know your story. We want to share with our biodiesel community the organizations and businesses that are embracing biodiesel.

We look forward to seeing you on October 27th.

I am thinking it might be fun to start a Science Journal Club. On the agenda is...

1. Everyone bring a favorite science research article.
2. Everyone agree and pick the most interesting article to read at home and review in the next journal club meeting.
3. Discuss the "Journal Club" concept and bring up fun ideas on what the purpose and activities of the club will be.

Bring a printed copy of a Science Journal Article.
Save a copy of the article to a disc in case your article is selected by the group, we will e-mail a copy to the members of the club after the event.
