About The New York Pharmaceutical and Biotechnology Meetup

The New York Pharmaceutical and Biotechnology Meetup was founded by Mariano DiFabio and Scott Alexander. We were interested in meeting other Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical professionals and discussing hot topics that are relevant to these industries today. Both Scott and I have significant experience in the Pharmaceutical industry, having had close ties to some of the larger companies in the area. We've found it intriguing how much the landscape has changed, and wanted to see if there were any other people out there interested in discussing both the logical and ethical topics that have arisen as a result. For example:

  • What do people think about getting drugs more cheaply by buying them through a Canadian supplier?
  • Should Pfizer still be selling Celebrex in spite of the fact that there's a possibility of increased complications? Where do you draw the line between patient and supplier responsibility?
  • I've read some articles recently that the FDA has gotten soft about the approval process for prescription drugs in order to appease large pharmaceuticals. Do you think this is the case?

Certainly, these are only a few topics we can explore together. Our own background is in technology, but we want to broaden our topics and invite a diverse group of people to discuss these topics in depth, and meet new people in the industry! We hope you can join us for one of our meetings.

I look forward to introducing myself and hearing what you have to say!

Mariano Di Fabio
